The writing section of the IELTS is different depending on which test you take, IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training. Both tests have a similar format:- 60 minutes to answer 2 tasks. The difference however is the type of tasks you have to complete.
IELTS Academic
Task 1
You will be presented with some visual information (chart/diagram/graph/table) and asked to describe it in your own words.
- At least 150 words
- 20 minutes
Task 2
You will have an argument, point of view or problem presented to you before you have to respond to it.
- At least 250 words
- 40 minutes
IELTS General Training
Task 1
You will be presented with a situation that you will need to respond to, e.g writing a letter.
- At least 150 words
- 20 minutes
Task 2
You will have to respond to an argument, point of view or problem in the style of an essay.
- At least 250 words
- 40 minutes
