Your spoken English will be assessed in this section. You will have a conversation with an examiner and will be asked to talk about a variety of topics. The speaking section is the same in both IELTS Academic & IELTS General training.
- Part 1 (4-5 minutes) – After checking your identity you will be asked about topics relating to yourself such as work, hobbies, family, friends etc
- Part 2 (3 – 4 minutes) – Next you will be given a card with a specific topic on it you will have 1 minute to prepare before talking about this subject for 1 – 2 minutes. Once this time is up the examiner will ask a few relatable questions for up to 1 minute.
- Part 3 (4 – 5 minutes) – Finally the examiner will ask more questions relating to the topic in the second section. This is a two-way conversation intended to go into more detail and bring out more interesting ideas.
Total time – 11–14 minutes
